5. Best Practice: Determine HOW you will use Abre Class

There are three ways you can use Abre Class:

  1. Purely as a Gradebook (a place to record grades)
  2. Purely as a Learning Management System
  3. A Gradebook AND a Learning Management System

Just a Gradebook

Used purely as a gradebook, Abre Class basically records the grades from any type of assignment and activity that happens in the real-world classroom. Think of this as your traditional gradebooks (usually in the Student Information System).

Just as an LMS

Use just as an LMS, students are submitting Activities (Assignments) via Abre Class. Teachers then record the grades in a different gradebook.

Used “Just as an LMS” has downsides with grades not appearing in the Student360 in a robust manner.

As a Gradebook AND LMS

With Abre Class you can collect activities, give feedback, AND record grades.

What About Reporting Grades and Report Cards?

At the end of the marking period, most schools need to get a final grade into the SIS. Customers typically do this via 1 of 2 ways.

Export grades out of Abre. Import into the SIS.

This assumes the SIS allows you to import grades.

Put the Final Grade into the SIS Manually.

This takes an extra step for teachers. But goes quickly.

Teachers who use Abre Class will want to determine how they will use Abre Class – specifically grades.
